Dust those old records off the shelf!

Opa's 90th birthday party was indeed epic. In fact the guest list was about 90 of his closest friends! At that occasion we highlighted just a few of his recent accomplishments.


So here we are today to honor Jack Hughes on his 90th birthday.   The man, the legend!  This is a man who has probably accomplished more since he turned 80 than many do in a lifetime.   Remember Dave Letterman and his top 10 lists?   Well, for Jack we have a list of his top ten list of accomplishments … since turning 80!

 

1.        Rode his bike in Death Valley to raise money to support JDRF … 4 times!  5 Pics

2.       Jumped out of an airplane. 4 Pics

3.       Rode his bike on the Natchez Trace to support the Fuller Center.  4 or 5 occasions.  4 Pics

4.       Rode on a zip line down a mountain in the Swiss Alps!  1 Pic

5.       Rode his bike across the Golden Gate Bridge and then another 15 miles to Tiberon. 2 Pics

6.       Traveled to northern Canada with his nephews to help significantly reduce the fish population there!  2 Pics

7.       Rode his bicycle from Cincinnati to Washington D.C.   He even stopped on town squares to collect handwritten letters to deliver to Congress. (Bike Picture with American Flag)

8.       Give you a hint on the next adventure/accompisment … It winds from Chicago to LA, More than 2000 miles all the way.  Get your kicks …  Well of course Opa got his kicks on Route 66!  Drove Cross country to West Coast and back including route 66!  2 Pics

9.       Rode his bike around Lake Geneva (2 Pics)

10.   Flew on an honor flight to Washington D.C with his fellow WWII veterans. (2 Pics)

11.   Played his trumpet and/or saxaphone at various gigs in Ohio and Indiana.

12.   Rode his bike in France from the Champagne region to Paris.   I mean from Champagne to a Paris suburb! He didn’t quite make it to Paris!! (2 Pics)

13.   Inducted into the  Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2015 (Pic)

14.   Raised or donated over half a million dollars for JDRF.  1 Pic

15.   Donated over $200K to Maple Knoll for the creation of a Hospice unit, an exercise machine and led the establishment of a new woodworking shop.

16.   And last but not least … And I think this is one of his proudest moments ..Officiated at Jordan and Meredith’s wedding just 6 weeks ago (3 Pics)

 

I guess that was more than 10!   And all of these accomplishment and honors in the last 10 years!   Be glad I didn’t highlight the first 80 years.  We would be here all day!
